Sweet 16! Anna Davis Wows In LPGA Debut
Call it beginner's luck. At just 16 years old, Anna Davis showed she's ready for LPGA primetime as she wowed the crowd during her tour debut at the Palos Verdes Championship on Thursday. Despite the pressure of expectation, Davis held strong, netting out with an even par of 71 to close the day.
"I think it was pretty much like every other tournament I would say," she said after the momentous debut. "...I don't know, I wasn't super nervous or anything."
All eyes were on Davis after her shocking win at the 2022 Augusta National Women's Amateur on April 2. That victory came off the back of a decisively dominant 2021: Davis had a masterful seven-stroke victory at the Girls Junior PGA Championship in July and was a member of the 2021 U.S. Junior Solheim Cup in September.
It's been an exciting couple of months, for sure, but the teen still sees room for improvement. Her next focus? "Hitting more greens probably. I didn't hit very many on the back," she said. "Just hitting it closer. My putting wasn't bad today. I think the wind kind of picked up towards the back nine, so that made it a little tougher to hit it close."
