Stacy Lewis, a two-time major champion on the LPGA Tour, was named the captain of Team USA for the 2023 Solheim Cup — a prestigious biennial match play event that pits teams representing both Europe and the United States.

A four-time member of Team USA's Solheim Cup team throughout her illustrious career, Lewis is now tasked with choosing and then leading the top-12 American female golfers, who will compete at the 2023 event at Finca Cortesin in Spain on Sept. 22-24.

Following the announcement on Wednesday recognizing Stacy Lewis as Team USA's captain, the 13-time LPGA Tour winner didn't mince words about the gratitude she has for earning the distinction.

Per LPGA.com: “To be named captain for the USA Solheim Cup Team is an incredible honor and I’m beyond grateful to the Committee for choosing me,” said Lewis. “I have so many amazing memories from my years on the team and the two opportunities I’ve had to work alongside the team. I absolutely love the Solheim Cup and I want 2023 to be as great an experience for my team as my years wearing Red, White and Blue have been for me.”

Stacy Lewis' credentials speak for themselves, as she spent 264 consecutive weeks ranked in the top-10 of the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings from 2011-16 — including 25 weeks at No. 1. Lewis also earned the 2012 and 2014 Rolex LPGA Player of the Year.

In 2016, Lewis was a member of Team USA at the Summer Olympics in Brazil, where she tied for fourth overall. So the LPGA veteran understands the importance of representing the United States at big events — like the Solheim Cup, where she was part of Team USA's roster in 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017.

After serving as an unofficial assistant captain under Juli Inkster for 2019's Solheim Cup, Stacy Lewis now takes over the reins herself. At 38 years old and 7 months at the start of the competition, Lewis will be the youngest Team USA captain at the Solheim Cup. Despite that, she has a wealth of experience both on the LPGA Tour and at the international event, and Lewis recognized being mentored by some of the captains that came before her.

Added Lewis: “I have learned so much from the past captains on the Solheim Cup Committee, and the fact that they chose me to lead this team is one of the proudest moments of my career.

"Juli gave me my first taste of captaincy when she asked me to help her with the singles lineup in Germany in 2015. Being an assistant captain for Pat was honestly the most fun week I’ve had at a Solheim Cup. I’m more than ready to step into this role.”

The 2023 Solheim Cup will be hosted by the Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Spain on Sept. 22-24. While Stacy Lewis has been named Team USA's captain, Suzann Pettersen will be serving as Team Europe's captain.
