A founding LPGA member, Louise Suggs thrived on competition. Fueled by an intense rivalry with Babe Zaharias, Suggs won 61 titles and 11 majors, including the 1949 U.S. Open by 14 strokes. When I first met Louise I was immediately drawn to her sharp wit and passion for storytelling, and while I join the rest of the sporting world in mourning her death this August, I’m emboldened by her spirit and her contributions to golf, which will live on for generations to come.
Louise Suggs 1923-2015
“Golf is very much like a love affair. If you don’t take it seriously, it’s no fun, but if you do, it breaks your heart. Don’t break your heart, but flirt with the possibility”
