'That's Got Me This Far': Scottie Scheffler Brushes Aside Grand Slam Talk Before U.S. Open
Scottie Scheffler recently showed little interest in completing his career grand slam at the 2026 U.S. Open. During the pre-tournament press conference, the golfer spoke about the monumental achievement, saying he is not looking forward to it. Scheffler stated that rather than attaining another major objective, he wants to be his best self.
The World No. 1 explained his POV on a career grand slam, stating, "You know, I always just wanted to be the best version of myself, and that got me this far. And so when it comes to this golf tournament, you know, like I said, I'm going to step up on the first tee, remind myself that I've done everything possible I could in order to play well."

Scottie Scheffler wants to be his best version.
Scheffler also stated that once on the golf field, his primary focus will be on executing his shots rather than winning. The golfer has won the Masters twice in his career (2022 and 2024), as well as the PGA Championship and Open Championship last season. This puts him just one win away from being the seventh golfer in history to accomplish the career grand slam.
Scottie Scheffler Claims That He Can Never Live Up to the Fans' Expectations

Scottie Scheffler talked about the fans' expectations.
During his comments about the career grand slam, Scheffler also mentioned how fans always have high expectations of him. If he wins the event and completes his grand slam, they'll be excited to watch what he does next. He asserted that this is why he sometimes believes that after winning the U.S. Open, perhaps his career will be virtually over.
Scheffler explained, "Then I show up the next week, and it's like, OK, now Scott, he's won the Grand Slam. He's won all these golf tournaments. Now, where do we go from here? And so no matter what, I think as a player and as a professional athlete, you're never going to live up to the expectations of people.

Scottie Scheffler explained his POV on a career grand slam.
"And I think sometimes that's a little bit of the fallacy in our sport, is that like, oh, man, if I win the US Open, then I'm going to be satisfied," the golfer continued. "I'm going to be, you know, I've won all the tournaments. Then my career is essentially over, and I've accomplished everything I could want to accomplish."
Scottie Scheffler's Form Has Seen a Dip in the 2026 Season So Far

Scottie Scheffler has only 1 win in 12 starts this season.
Unfortunately, Scheffler is currently going through a small winless drought. The golfer had an excellent start to the season by winning the 2026 American Express, but he has since lost shots in almost every tournament. While he has three runner-up finishes this season, he has not won in his last 11 starts.
This is also one of the main reasons Scheffler is ranked third in the PGA Tour power rankings walking into the 2026 U.S. Open. While the world No. 1 is in good form, he has not been able to convert good starts into a big win.
